Referrers & Referrals

Referral Pathway

Dalton Housing CIC accepts referrals from local authorities, commissioned services, probation, mental health teams, charities, and other support agencies. We provide supported accommodation with a focus on stable placements, clear housing management, and tenancy sustainment.

What We Provide

  • Supported accommodation with clear expectations and boundaries
  • Structured suitability screening to reduce placement breakdown
  • Tenancy management: property standards, repairs reporting routes, escalation
  • Tenancy sustainment approach: consistent engagement and coordination with agencies (where appropriate)
  • Stakeholder communication with clear routes for updates and escalation


How Referrals Work

  1. Initial enquiry by phone/email
  2. Referral information reviewed (suitability, risks, support needs)
  3. Placement decision (availability and match)
  4. Move-in planning and ongoing tenancy management

Response times: We aim to acknowledge enquiries within 1 working day and provide an initial decision within 2–3 working days, subject to information provided and availability.


What to Include in a Referral (Email Checklist)

Referrer details

  • Referrer name, organisation, and role
  • Phone number and email address

Individual details

  • Full name and date of birth
  • Current address / housing situation
  • Move-in timeframe
  • Any access needs or practical considerations (where relevant)

Support needs

  • Key needs and goals (e.g., mental health, substance misuse, offending history, exploitation risk)
  • Current agencies involved
  • Engagement level and what has worked previously

Risk information (important)

Please include any known risk concerns, including:

  • Violence/aggression history
  • Arson/fire-setting history or current risk
  • Sexual offence history/restrictions
  • Exploitation (victim/perpetrator), cuckooing risk
  • Substance misuse and behaviours linked to risk
  • Any current restrictions (e.g., probation, MAPPA conditions)

Documents (where available)

  • Risk assessment summary / relevant background notes
  • Support plan or needs assessment
  • ID and benefit status overview (if relevant to move-in readiness)

Suitability and Safety

All referrals are considered case-by-case to protect residents, neighbours, and staff. Placements are subject to suitability, risk profile, and availability.

We are not able to accommodate:

  • Individuals with a current or recent arson/fire-setting risk
  • Individuals subject to high-risk sexual offence restrictions, or where the risk profile is not suitable for supported accommodation
  • Individuals whose current behaviour presents a high risk of serious violence or persistent harm to others


Communication and Escalation

We aim to maintain clear communication with referrers and stakeholders, including updates where appropriate and consented. For urgent matters or escalation, referrers can contact the main line or the lead contact listed above.

Safeguarding

If someone is at immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services on 999. For non-emergency safeguarding concerns relating to our services, email us and mark your message “Safeguarding” in the subject line so it can be escalated.
